Frequently Asked Questions
DO YOU CHARGE FOR AN ESTIMATE?
We generally provide free estimates. However, in some cases, we may charge a small fee for insurance estimates, refundable if we receive the contract for the work.
For VERY, small jobs (jobs of only a few hours), we typically do not do estimates; rather, we will quote an hourly fee over the phone.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET A BUILDING PERMIT? DOES YOUR COMPANY TAKE CARE OF THAT?
The permit process varies by city/town. But we obtain the permit as part of our service.
WHAT IS YOUR PROCESS? HOW DO I GET STARTED?
It all starts with a call or email to DeLucia Construction. We will schedule an appointment to visit you at your location. Any documentation and/or information that you can provide to us at that first meeting will help streamline the process. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Plot plans of your property.
- Pictures/examples of what you are thinking of doing.
- Sample materials.
We will then work up a proposal, which will detail what we intend to do, the materials we intend to use, and the price.
WHAT IS YOUR AVAILABILITY FOR OUR PROJECT?
This depends on our workload. But once you are ready to proceed, we will quote a realistic starting date and make every effort to adhere to that date. And once we do start, we stay with the job until it is complete.
WE ALREADY HAVE PLANS. CAN YOU GIVE US A BID?
Absolutely! This makes the process easier and more accurate for both of us.
HOW LONG DOES A RENOVATION TAKE?
Of course, this depends on the size and scope of the renovation. A typical full bathroom renovation takes roughly two weeks at the most. An average size deck can be completed within one week. A full kitchen renovation can usually be completed within two weeks.
WHAT DO I DO WHILE CONSTRUCTION IS TAKING PLACE?
Relax and let us do what we do best! We will make every effort to minimize the disruption to your household during the construction process. But please do not hesitate to voice any questions or concerns to us at any time before or during the construction process.
How to decide on a contractor for your project
For any sizable project, you should get at least three estimates. Choose reputable contractors who are licensed and insured, and preferably accredited by the Better Business Bureau.
Ask the contractor to see copies of his State of Connecticut Home Improvement Contractors License, and copies of both his General Liability and Worker’s Compensation Policies.
Ask the contractor for 3-5 references of other customers in the area that he has worked for.
If possible, visit one of the contractor’s jobs to gauge the quality of his work.
Check with the contractor’s major suppliers to see that he is in good standing.
Compare the proposals that you have received. Make sure that any differences in materials and/or methods of construction are noted.
And lastly, try to avoid the mistake of choosing the contractor based solely on price. While it may be tempting to choose the contractor with the lowest price, avoid making your decision on price alone. For example, if you receive four quotes, and three are very close in price, but the fourth is substantially lower, you should ask yourself why the price is so low.
